Council selects nearest site for new training school

A special council meeting approved a site plan for the county funded training school costing 19000 dollars. The mayor and clerk are instructed to buy the north half of the block south of the Soo depot for up to 2600 dollars and donate it for the school. If the site ceases to be used for education it reverts to the city.

Cowin and Brownell Tie Quiet Daytime Wedding

H Frank Cowin and Flora P Brownell wed at the Christian Parsonage on May 31. The ceremony was intimate due to the bride’s father’s illness. Flora is the Brownell daughter. H Frank is the Cowin son. We wish them a long, prosperous life together.

Local marriage licenses issued this past week

County clerk records show three couples married in Ladysmith and nearby areas. Carl F. Wilske and Myra M. Volk of Ladysmith wed May 25, Stephen Gross and Myrtle Tinder of Ladysmith wed May 27, and Miles G. Davis of Grant town with Mrs. Lucinda E. Nalley of Ladysmith wed June 3.

Hawkins to Host Nation Birthday Celebration Plan

Ellingson of Hawkins announced plans for a major nationwide birthday celebration with speakers including Congressman Lenroot and ex Speaker Ekern. The Cameron Band will play and a special train from Weyerhauser is likely. Ladysmith residents are invited, though no locals plan a separate event.

The Hawkins Graded school class toured the county seat Saturday under teacher Prof. C. Palmer and Miss Nina St. Claire. Obituary of Kiah Wilson of Rhinelander

Kiah Wilson, a Soo brakeman, died from injuries after falling from a car at Hawkins on May 24. He was 31, survived by a widow, one child, three sisters, five brothers, and his parents. Funeral services were held Sunday in Humbird after his remains were taken there from Rhinelander.

Barron man fined for selling liquor on Sunday

Myron Letson of a sawmill north of town pleaded guilty before Justice Reeves to selling liquor on Sunday and was fined the maximum $25 plus costs. Herman Decker, a saloon keeper alleged to have supplied the whiskey, pled guilty and also paid the same fine. Sheriff McNally filed the complaint in both cases.

Highland Station students hold 1910 commencement at opera house

New Base Ball Management Promises Notable Sunday Games

Monroe Sands has secured the ball park for the season and plans a lively series of Sunday games with neighboring towns. Last Sunday the home team beat Cameron 8 to 3, and Cameron recently held Barron to 5 to 4. The city team will play Hawk ins and Tony next Sunday at 2 p.m. sharp.

Decoration Day observed in Ladysmith with veterans and students

Ladysmith marked its 43rd Decoration Day with graves decorated in Riverside and south cemeteries. Veterans and Relief Corps members, aided by school children, attended a noon meal at Eagle hall and filled the opera house for programs led by Hon. R. S. Johnson.
