Rights of parents to be paid for transporting children
County school guidance explains that parents living over two miles from school may be paid at least 20 cents per day for transporting their children if the child attends school for five months. Payments are due only after five months. monthly payments are unlawful and walking days do not count toward the required days.
Milwaukee Journal proposes eleven Wisconsin teachers to travel Europe
The Milwaukee Journal plans to send eleven Wisconsin school teachers to European battlefields chosen by popular vote. Any adult county resident may nominate a candidate at the primaries. The county committee to receive votes includes the County Supt and two local members. Nominations must be in by January 51st. The trip is self funded with no unusual candidate conditions. Rusk county is urged to participate and push for a local teacher to be chosen. Uniform text book plan adopted at Ladysmith convention with a five member committee to select books for all county elementary schools.

City health officer C. F. E. Bugher presents Ladysmith vital statistics for 1919. Deaths totaled 138 with 83 males and 55 females, oldest resident 86 years 11 months 25 days, and 79-year-old oldest female. Births numbered 101 with 55 females and 46 males. Marriages reached 58, youngest 17, with numerous pairs aged 17 and 18. No epidemics. diphtheria scarlet fever and typhoid present in mild form.

Fall from new Hamm building proves fatal in St Paul
Anton Schneider, 26, of Medford, employed by Romer Construction Co., died after a fall from the fourth floor when an iron derrick beam struck him in the Hamm building. He suffered a fractured skull and multiple injuries and died shortly after hospital admission. His funeral was held in Medford.

Bugher Opens Farmers Bank in Sheldon

Woman burns to death in Rice Lake house fire

In Rusk County Calf Club work nearly all Holstein calves have been supplied and Guernsey calves will arrive next month. The calves are large healthy grades with strong production records and are sourced from Wisconsin’s best Holstein stock. Prices range from 26 to 82 dollars delivered, with shipments of 78 grade heifer calves to Texas last week and over 500 monthly to multiple states.
