Tragedy on the Rails Near Crane Ends Life of Bouton

William Duane Bouton of Elroy Wisconsin about 25 died after wandering asleep on a railroad track near Crane while returning from Murry to Crane with companion Decker. The through freight engine rolled his body for a half mile. Sheriff McNally said Bouton laid down and slept.ahusay

Fire department to buy racing cart for Ft Atkinson unit

At a Monday meeting the Chief and secretary were authorized to purchase the racing cart of the Fort Atkinson Fire Department. The late association barred Fort Atkinson romany races for three years, so the cart has no current use. Previously the track team had to strip a hose cart for practice due to funding. Money to loan from Thomas and Carow, Ladysmith, Wis.

Ladysmith City Team Drops Two Games on Park Falls and Medford Trip

Ladysmith City Basket Ball squad traveled to Park Falls and Medford over two days. They lost 17 to 6 at Park Falls amid a slippery floor and fell 42 to 14 against Medford despite heavier opponents. Travelers included Culver, Grover, Lewin, Stout, Jung, Smiths, and Sands. A Park Falls return game and a girls game were set for Saturday night at the opera house.

Funeral services for Olaf Kron held at Roy schoolhouse

Olaf Kron died of cancer in Willard on Wednesday the 21st. Rev. J. E. Watson led funeral rites Monday at the Roy schoolhouse, with interment in Riverside cemetery. Kron, born in Norway in 1845, came to America eight years ago with his family to Northfield Minnesota. He is survived by his widow and nine children. At death he was living with his son Olaf Olson on the Moses farm fifteen miles south of the city.

Park Falls High School seniors host Ladysmith High School girls in two games at Wordens Opera House. The event wraps up with a dance after the contests on Saturday night December 31.

Old Soldier's Watch Meeting Dec 31 at Eagle Hall with a supper served by Relief Corps ladies from five to eight. Supper costs 25 cents though a good time is free for all. The menu includes fricaseed chicken mashed potatoes gravy cabbage salad cranberries baked beans brown bread boiled ham white bread and butter beet salad doughnuts cake coffee cucumber pickles cheese.

Sunday School children recited and sang with gifts, sweets, and a decorated tree at multiple churches including the German Lutheran and Church of Christ. A Santa appearance at the M. E. H. O. Bye Burned Out In Snowbound Farm Fire

Fire at Glen Flora area home of Hans O Bye reoccurred for the third time in two years. He and his wife and three children escaped with only the barn and stock lost earlier, the blaze beginning from a defective flue. Neighbors rushed to aid, water damage exceeded fire loss, and insurance coverage was noted.

Ladysmith Girls Christmas Party Delights Local Children

A Ladysmith Christmas party hosted by Inez Richards, daughter of Mayor D. H. Richards, delighted twelve children aged 6 to 9. The itinerary included a noon feast, ice cream, a gift-topped Christmas tree, Santa Claus with candy and nuts, and a country sleigh ride, ending with each child being returned home before dark.

Bridge Building Deferred Over Flambeau at Ladysmith

The county board’s plan to build a bridge below the Soo railroad bridge to meet the county road has stalled. Insufficient bond detail may render bonds invalid, delaying construction until county supervisors act. No bridge will connect M W W Co third addition with the city until a law allows the common council to bind the city to repay the Wooden Ware Co for last winter’s proposal.
