A committee will collect data to promote Ladysmith literature and three-year directors were elected to succeed Dregne Speidel and Householder. T. C. East reports his son A. H., in Battery B, 120th Field Artillery, served in France after crossing the Atlantic aboard the Waterland Leviathan in March. The unit landed at Liverpool then Havre, France, reaching Alsace near Mulhausen in June and saw intense fighting at Chateau Thierry.

Harmon Drake Re Turns From England
Harmon A. Drake, son of Mr and Mrs Cameron Drake, recently moved to Ladysmith from a farm southwest of Conrath, has arrived home from the 315th Squadron US Air Service. He sailed aboard the Mauretania and landed in New York December 2. He reports strong camaraderie among Americans Australians and Canadians while in England and notes English soldiers felt slight jealousy over better pay and rations.

Ryall's Garage Foreman Fractures Arm Cranking Ford

Haynes Twins Die of Pneumonia in Brooklyn Area
William and Gertrude Haynes, twin children of Mr. and Mrs. B. Haynes of the Brooklyn addition, died yesterday from pneumonia at ages 1 year 5 months 18 days. Funeral services were held today with burial at Riverside cemetery.

Vincent Walker formerly of Lady Smith and Bruce writes from U S general hospital at Ft. Des Moines Iowa about a brutal shell explosion on August 5 that lifted him off the ground. He recalls two Milwaukee men wounded and dying, gas exposure causing pleurisy and drainage of nearly two gallons, and expresses hope the war ends soon.

A Rusk county unit Battery B will soon return from France after transfer from the 32nd Division when designated part of the army of occupation.
