The News Budget census of Ladysmith shows 3946 residents as of December 20 1921, up from 3581 in 1920, with gains tied to annexation from Flambeau and strong home ownership of 652 families. The survey confirms News Budget's large city circulation and reach of about 1800 readers in 452 households, with 440 homes receiving daily papers and 121 receiving none.
Christmas services at St Marys feature midnight mass with two additional masses at 8 and 10:30 followed by benediction. J N Bartholomeus leads Mass in Eb, with Holy Night and several choral pieces performed by the choir under Mrs Ritchey and F M Doyle. Also noted is a market report on fuel wood and bolts sold in the city last week.
The Christmas music at the Methodist Church next Sunday at 11 o clock will feature The Heavenly Sign by Lorenz choir The Little Town of Bethlehem by Nelson choir The Guiding Star performed by Ira V Wilson with male quartet Alden Wittmayer Moore and Hansen and W Moore E Hansen plus selections by the choirs and quartet.
The London Concert Co will perform at the Unique theater tonight at 8 15. Admission is 20 cents for children and 85 cents for adults plus tax. The five member company tours the country in lyceum work and will present local and instrumental numbers.
L Vy Whitehead extension apiculturist cannot attend the January 16 meeting with County Agent Schoept causing the Rusk County Beekeepers Association gathering to be potentially postponed indefinitely.
Albert Koehler Stubbs Dewey and Charles Creighbaum each earned rewards for a wolf. Wm Gillen of Atlanta collected for a wolf as did Milton Joyner of Atlanta. Roy Gratias of Cedar Rapids was paid for a fox and Milton Joyner earned a second reward for two foxes in Atlanta.
Upcoming shows run across December 25 to 28 featuring The Lotus Eater with Wesley Barry, The Gilded Lilly with Mae Murray, Voice in the Dark, and The Rage of Paris with Miss DuPont. Performances span Sunday through Thursday at the venue.Unique.
The case of five year old Clarence Moyer alleging harsh punishment by kindergarten teacher Miss Sophie Lanzer could go to the state superintendent and possibly the courts. The board kept Lanzer after the incident, while affidavits and reports from witnesses and a doctor support the bruising claim.
Local lodges held annual elections with some officers installed, most to occur in January. The Eastern Star installed officers on December 15 with eleven past matron pins presented by Mrs. Davidson. Officers named include Nellie Lyell Worthy Matron and Clyde Hebard Venerable Counselor, among many others across Eastern Star and Modern Woodmen of America chapters.
The Ladysmith Chamber of Commerce board elected officers for the coming year on Dec 16. President T Ditmanson, Vice President Harry Ballou, Secretary Treasurer H A Drake will lead the executive committee. A New Year program with a banquet and smoker is set for Jan 2, featuring musical numbers. The luncheon committee includes R J Coon, chair, along with R J Clark, John Holtz, John Hein Jr, D J Summerville, N Whiteford, George Diedrich, Frank Manley, and Wm Luell.
Ely Prevost leads a crew of woodsmen preparing to secure ship timbers twelve miles north of Glen Flora. They will square timbers with scoring axes and haul them to the railroad for shipment to England via Montreal. Prevost, longtime timber man from Stanley, is related to Denny Prevost of Gordon.
John Gibson Blair of Glen Flora died Saturday from diabetes at age 74. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church with Rev Han son from Clear Lake and Rev Adee from Glen Flora officiating. Interment followed in Glen Flora cemetery. He leaves a wife and three daughters in Glen Flora and other relatives.

Arthur Walter Kernwein Bruce and Molly Eysnogle of Glen Flora filed for a license, as did Asa Ryman of Ladysmith with Pamph Nettie Fletcher of Conrath, all seeking county approval for marriage licenses.
R M Goldsmith filed a report to obtain a state license to buy cream. The report details 329 561 pounds of cream purchased in the past year, totaling more than 163 percent tons, for a license fee of two dollars.
Adolph Consie and Miss Elsie Knaack, both of Conrath, were married Thursday December 16 at the local Lutheran church with Rev. C B Voelz officiating. Witnesses were Clyde Lambert and Miss Faye Hocking. The couple will live near Conrath.
The BA. N. A. elected Oracle Elizabeth Davis and Vice Oracle Elizabeth Staples for the year. Other officers include Recorder Anna Werner, Receiver Emma Robelia, Chancellor Agnes Van Horn, Marshall Lottie Nalley, Past Oracle Minnie Moore, Inner Sentinel Clara Daniels, and Manager Martha Thompson.

The state versus Stephen Newman, a Atlanta farmer, reopened in municipal court after a prejudice affidavit against the regular judge. The Sept 6 fire destroyed his farm house while his family was at a Bruce fair. Newman claimed he was in the woods. Insurance covered losses and a neighbor reported suspicious items found near an old building a mile away. The case was continued.
City council granted Michaelson & Hughes Co. permission to add a 15 by 36 foot rear extension with nine foot high brick walls. Excavation for a vault has begun behind the current building. Ladysmith Implement Co. won approval to install a fireproof roof on their garage near the warehouse. Charles Kirwan is in Manitowoc for Christmas with family.
Flambeau town board and La Dysmith city council met in city hall to finalize a settlement of disputed territory. The city is owed 3840.70 in county taxes, will take on 980 of a town bond, and receives 250.60 for taxes paid twice. Both sides agreed amicably to end the dispute from the supreme court decision.
Mayor Lyell appoints a relief committee to distribute Christmas baskets to all needy families in Ladysmith and prevent winter want. The group seeks warm clothing donations and asks residents to notify members of any destitute households by Saturday noon.
Tuesday afternoon the city council acted as a board of review for property assessments in the Flambeau territory. No complaints were filed and the councilmen proceeded with other duties.
In municipal court Del Tollard was adjudged guilty of willfully pointing a gun at Deputy Conservation Warden Ben Plummer in the woods on November 29. Tollard claimed innocence as Plummer and Lyle Nelson testified. Judge Williams fined $20 and added $3.59 in costs, all paid.
The Appleton Ideals routed Ladysmith A C 52 to 20 on the local gym floor Tuesday. Bruce High School defeated Ladysmith 11 to 5 in a preliminary. Ladysmith’s Cornell High School loss stood 33 to 12 as Schrotz led the Ladysmith with 17 points.
