School children participate in a stamp sale program selling 8 000 stamps to win prizes. Organizers report strong participation and note the program aims to foster fundraising and stamp-collecting interest among students.
Dale McNally of the 8th grade won the special first prize of $5 for selling the most Red Cross Christmas Seals, with 950 sold. Donald Gotham of 5th grade won a $4 mirror as second prize. total stamps sold by all pupils reached 8,056 and proceeds went to the stamp fund.
Trains No 17 and 18 on the Chicago division began running over the new cut-off between Owen and Spencer on Sunday. The division station moved from Abottsford to Stevens Point. freight traffic may stay via Abottsford until spring and a freight division is expected at Ladysmith.
Three inches of snow on Thursday makes first class sleighing. Old snow has vanished and a week of zero weather laid a firm foundation. Farmers haul bolts and fuel to town while loggers use the good sleighing.

The Menasha Wooden Ware Co has leased the old C R M logging railroad north from Apollonia for eight years. They plan repairs and extension toward the northeast to access timberlands near Ladysmith, with transport via Apollonia. G B Goodher won Quaker Medicine Co bean-jar guessing contest. Bruce and Ladysmith telephone directories arrived with local ads replacing Milwaukee ads.
The Invincibles were routed by Stanley H S 60 to 9 on Wednesday and by Thorpe 64 to 4 on Thursday on new floors. Barron area reports show Ladysmith H S losing 41 to 10 to a visiting high school team last Friday. Local H S hosts Phillips tonight.
Fire Chief D F Manley returned from Fort Atkinson where he attended a State Firemen's association officers meeting of which he is second vice president. With the president not seeking reelection and the first vice president removed, Frank faces promotion at the Fort Atkinson tournament on June 21 22 and 23. Manley notes Ladysmith welcome for visiting Fire Laddies two years ago and mentions a prize fight tonight between Al Hoppie and Harry Fails at the opera house.
