Otto Austin Fined After Thanksgiving Fight
Otto Austin appeared before Justice Edgar and was fined $2 and costs for his part in a Thanksgiving week fight in which he and Leonard Copp attacked Joe Haase. Copp had been arrested and fined. Austin was brought to town by Chief Lozier and paid the $8 total.

Home Guard Delegates Leave for Milwaukee Meeting
Ladysmith Home Guard officers Captain Callaway Lieut Skinner and Sergeant Householder left for Milwaukee after the Adjutant General secured transportation. Fire Destroys Home in Holcombe Believed Thoroughly Burned
Smoke and flames engulfed the residence of Mrs. G W Pearce in Holcombe on Monday night, with the structure largely destroyed though most contents were saved. Firefighters battled the blaze but limited the damage to the building and kept neighboring homes safe.
Soldier Taken as a Deserter From Ladysmith to Fort Snelling
Neil James, 19, son of Mrs. Kate James, was arrested at the Soo depot on suspicion of desertion while about to depart for the west. He claimed overstayed leave to visit his mother, saying he intended to proceed to Fort Snelling and then Fort Sill. Chief Lozier, with Sgt Woodard, sent him to Fort Snelling for transfer to Fort Sill. a $50 reward for deserters was noted by the bill in his possession.

Henry Helfenbein and his three children were jailed for two weeks on a charge of selling property not his own. He pleaded guilty before Judge Maloney, was fined five dollars plus costs, and agreed to repay Theo Emerson sixty dollars. He will also pay his son-in-law Oberlander monthly for the children’s support. Helfenbein had funds from the Ed Klepps sale and holds an equity in real estate. total costs and fine approach one hundred dollars.

Destructive Fire Destroys Livery Stable at Bruce
A blaze at the Welke Livery stable in Bruce leveled the building at 2 45 am Saturday. One horse perished, owned by Dan Tollendorf of Chippewa Falls. Loss is heavy and only partly insured. Cause of the fire is unknown.
