A man became enraged and began shooting, injuring two people in a chaotic incident. Police hauled him to custody after he ran amuck through the scene, prompting a response from emergency crews and investigators.
In Ladysmith eastern Maple Hill an armed man from New York, Paul Priczka, fired at a house after a dispute over a woman. George Crazlok was wounded in the left arm and shoulder as Priczka fled, later wounded by a guard in a dark chase. Priczka faces an assault with intent to murder charge after a hearing.
Co D Swaim accompanied Dennis O'Brien of Turtle Lake to Mendota Monday night. O'Brien had been an inmate of Mendota and later of St Croix county asylum, escaping recently. He allegedly assaulted a 9 year old girl near Turtle Lake, evaded a posse, worked at a camp in Ingram, then was arrested for insulting a woman. He appeared degenerate from birth based on appearance and record.
The four year old son of Mr and Mrs William Hanson died Wednesday from burns suffered about a month earlier. The parents were away at the barn during the accident and the cause of the clothing fire remains undetermined. Despite severe burns on body and head, recovery was hoped until shortly before death. The funeral was held at the home with Rev Baumbach officiating and burial in Riverside.
The Methodist Sunday school invites children to Christmas eve events with games and refreshments for primary grades at 2:00 p.m. at the church and a 7:00 p.m. gathering for older scholars with games and a feast.
The Rusk County Medical Society held its annual meeting at the courthouse on Tuesday. Elected for the coming year were President J. C. Baker of Hawkins, Vice President R. A. Claridge of Bruce, Secretary and Treasurer L. M. Lundmark, Censor H. R. T. Ross, Delegate to the State Medical Association meeting in Milwaukee W. L. Stephenson, and Alternate J. C. Baker.

The Mystic Lodge No. 280 F. and A. M. elected officers Tuesday night with W. J. Kermott named Worshipful Master and R. March as Senior Warden. Other posts went to S. L. Chicker, R. J. Sands, C. C. Wisconsin Supreme Court reverses an circuit court ruling in Soo Line vs Menasha Wooden Ware Co. The suit challenged a long term contract granting favorable log shipment rates to Ladysmith, deemed legal at inception but challenged after new rate laws. The decision voids the earlier lower court ruling and sides with the railroad.
Gilbert King faced Judge Reeves after a November burglary at the John Hein Co. store in Tony. He was bound over to the Circuit Court in $1,000 bond, with default leading to jail. King allegedly stole merchandise and stamps, plus a hand car, then fled to Ladysmith and Superior before arrest.
Neil James, a Vienna bakery worker, had his left hand badly smashed in the bread-mixer gears while cleaning. He turned on power to reposition the hopper and in trying to stop it, grabbed the mechanism. fortunately no bones were broken.
The creamery will be closed on Christmas Day but will receive cream on Saturday and Mr Steubs will be on hand to sell feed Saturday. The retail department will be open 8 to 9 on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
A man, likely Polish and about 38 years old, was fatally struck by a westbound freight train 21 ½ miles east of Ingram on a Saturday night. His face was crushed, no identification found, and Coroner Ellingboe deemed no inquest necessary. The body was buried in a potter's field in Ladi Smith after attempts to locate kin and a sister in Hawkins failed.
Joseph Pavlik of Tony died in Mendota last week and was brought back for burial, with funeral at St Anthony's Church in Tony officiated by Rev Hyacinth. Burial follows in Tony Catholic Cemetery. He was 26 years old and single.
The district convention of the I O O F for District No 5 met Saturday in Ladysmith with lodges Bruce Tony Catawba and Prentice represented. Refreshments were served and a pleasant evening noted. The next meeting will be the district's annual convention at Bruce on the second Saturday in February with officer elections.

Judge Wickham has granted a new trial in the case of Mrs. Treadwell and Mrs. Cannon versus Robert Fritz. The jury found Fritz negligent in operating his automobile, spooking the horse, causing the women to be tipped and injured, with damages awarded. Fritz’s attorneys McGill Williams moved to set aside the verdict arguing it clashed with the weight of evidence.
J. G. Green, a farmer living about a mile south on the Gates road, suffered a Sunday auto accident while en route to church in Ladysmith. The car skidded and rolled over, breaking both bones in his left forearm. His family was aboard but uninjured. Green recently arrived from Mason City, Iowa and rents a farm further south.
The Germans say two British destroyers were sunk after a raid on coastal towns in the North Sea. A third warship is reported missing badly damaged. The article notes intense fighting near Warsaw as the eastern campaign heats up and the city’s fate hinges on the outcome.
The city schools close this afternoon for two weeks of holiday vacation with in classroom exercises. St Mary's school reports a successful session and an afternoon program of music recitations. The training school will close Dec 23 for ten days and reopen Jan 4 with a Christmas program at 2 PM Tuesday.
The Unique Theater will present an entirely new animated song titled The Fatherland The Motherland The Land of My Best Girl. It features moving pictures like a motion picture and debuted in Minneapolis St Paul and Milwaukee with enthusiastic public reception last week.

The county clerk reported marriages: Orville W. Hanchett of Hawkins wed Rachel Adams of Ladysmith on December 12. Charles L. Donahue and Nina Coney, both of Ladysmith, were married on December 16.
Motor-car operators John Dickson and Charles Priest were seriously injured when a southbound freight train known as the Scout collided with their vehicle near Conrath yesterday forenoon. Dickson suffered a broken right shoulder while Priest sustained a skull fracture and was unconscious at press time. They were taken to Ladysmith and then Marshfield hospital for care.
The Kilgore agency lists recent land purchases by Wajcuek Kauwalczyk of Minneapolis 40 acres south of Weyerhaeuser J Vict Zajac of Pennsylvania 40 acres north of Lady Smith and Jack Walinski of Milwaukee 40 acres south of Weyerhaeuser all moving onto their lands. The former Lepley 80 near town sold to C V Carlson of Colfax Ia a Great Western R R master mechanic who plans to have a brother occupy the property in March.
The Bucks Club held its annual banquet at the Baker House with many members and wives in attendance. Guests praised Mrs Hisenach for the festivity while venison was served with zest. Afterward the group formed a speechifying committee and discussed building a new log camp, planning to log it this winter.

A Bruce farmers institute and a cooking school for women were held yesterday and today with fairly good attendance. Institute sessions took place at the opera house while the cooking demonstration was staged in the Odd Fellows hall.
