A two story frame Tony school building burned Saturday night with only a teacher's desk saved. Loss about 7000 dollars, 4000 insured. Fire blamed on a defective flue in the old north wing. The town plans a new 10000 dollar brick six room school and may borrow 6000 from the state. Meanwhile classes resume in town hall or opera house.

Fire destroys Gruber Co. building and stock at Catawaba
Fire on the second floor of the John B. Gruber & Co. building at Catawaba Friday destroyed the entire stock and the building. Losses are about 15000 for stock and 5000 for the structure with limited insurance. The firm, which did a large business, will likely rebuild. Firemen were also called to a house fire on East 8th Street Thursday, which caused minor damage.

A man named Engstad at the paper mill became sick with diphtheria while staying at Menasha boarding house early in the week. The second son of Conductor Wm. Dunn, four years old, died at Rhinelander Sunday from diphtheria, with the elder boy gravely ill. They were visiting when illness began.
