Rusk County leads with 107 percent of its $7 500 quota as Wisconsin closes its postwar United War Work drive. Sixty-five counties oversubscribed. Sawyer and Price counties also posted strong gains while influenza and quarantines hampered some counties. The state raised $4,494,251.60, with districts reporting 133 to 143 percent in top shows. Green and Brown counties hit 100 percent within minutes after midnight on November 11.

Weldon Granted Unconditional Pardon by Governor
W. C. Weldon of Rhinelander formerly of Glen Flora received an unconditional pardon from Governor Philipp. Convicted in 1915 for enticing and abducting a young girl for immoral purposes in Rusk County, he was sentenced to one year but not jailed. The Wisconsin Supreme Court upheld the circuit court judgment on a writ of error. The pardon followed efforts by Weldon's attorney T. M. Thomas.

Mrs. Rosa Schuler of Kennan died at her home from influenza pneumonia at 18 years 4 months 2 days. Burial was at Kennan. Harry W. Hills, 30 10 16, died at Exeland after influenza and pneumonia. His remains were shipped to Green Lake. He leaves a widow.

First Lieut Clyde Hebard has been honorably discharged and returned to Ladysmith from Camp Joseph E. Johnston Jacksonville Florida. He notes large daily dissections and the camp rapid emptying as troops come home. He met Lawrence Plummer formerly of Ladysmith at St Augustine two weeks ago. Lawrence joined the cavalry troop organized here but was dismissed for being under age.

Fire department stops blaze at Earl Dubois residence
Prompt response by the fire department just before 6 o'clock Wednesday evening stopped what could have become a serious basement fire at the Earl Dubois residence on West Ninth street. The fire started from an overheated furnace pipe and was extinguished with the chemical engine before substantial damage occurred.

Wounded Soldier Edward Speich Mentioned in Papers
