Ladysmith triumphed 71 to 8 at the local high school gym in front of a large student body and Hawkins supporters. The home team showcased strong teamwork led by Lyell and E Hutchinson while Hawkins, new to the game, showed early jitters.
Lawrence Vance and Della Burlin were married Thursday morning at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Marion Guist in the first ward. Rev. C. M. McKay officiated the ceremony.
A sequence of warranty deeds records transfers from Frank I Hughes to Eli Rands, from J L Gates Land Co to Minnie Way, from Badger State Ltd to W S Manning, and more. Transfers involve parcels in Sabins Revised Additions, Sheldon Land Co divisions, Hawkins village, and various lots with values shown, including parcels to Amel Rondeals and Lester Millett, with totals ranging up to 3500 dollars.

Miss May Smith presented an engaging program at Shaw dam school last Friday evening. Parents attended as officials discussed consolidating the Flambeau schools with a likely plan to form a graded school within the coming year or two.
The Robly Male Quartet delivered a high merit lyceum program at the Congregational church on Tuesday evening. A large audience enjoyed the selos and selections with special praise for the quartet’s rendition of A Perfect Day by Carrie Jacobs Bond. Mr Robley’s readings and impersonations pleased, and the sketch Trials of a College Poet provided amusing variety.
Ladysmith high school won 71 to 8 in a practice game. Art Oldendorf returns to school after props are discarded and expects to be fine by deer season. Colby Hutchinson rejoined the team last Saturday with a sturdy wrist brace. The squad heads to Stanley next Friday to meet their local rivals. The lineup includes Lyell, Zimmerman, Jacobs, Lindoo, and Zelinski.
Promoters from southern states campaign in Wisconsin to lure settlers with claims of vacant lands. The Wisconsin Advancement Association counters with a census based leaflet showing crop yields, arguing Wisconsin offers better opportunities and urges residents to compare the facts before moving.
Thompson Merc. Co announces purchase of railroad ties for both roads. They offer the highest market price and seek 20 000 to 30 000 ties near Ladysmith.
The Ladysmith pea cannery operated by North Wisconsin Canning Co finished its first season with the last carload of peas shipped. Superintendent Frank Stare reports about 50 cars produced, despite a poor growing year, amounting to roughly 1.2 million cans of peas.
A two day Farmers Institute is set for Bruce in Rusk County on December 19 and 20 with H D Griswold of West Salem and E L Aderhold of Neenah leading sessions on soil conservation farms crops and silage. A free cooking school led by Miss Edith L Clitt of Chicago runs afternoons December 19 and 20 inviting Bruce area women.
The preliminary hearing in the Ira Broady murder case involving Mrs. Estela Hill was dismissed by Court Commissioner Maloney last Friday as no evidence existed to warrant a hearing.
A J Sinclair of Waterloo Indiana aged 79 died November 29 he was brother of R O Sinclair of this city He was temperate in all things and active in the Red Ribbon movement serving on the school board leading the fire department and aiding the community He never asked for himself but gave freely and gladly according to the Waterloo Press.

Buck's Club held an elegant banquet for its members and ladies at the Gerard Hotel Monday evening. Thirty eight couples attended as host Mr. and Mrs. H. O. Shaver were praised for the fine five course repast and superb service. President J. W. Carew acted as toastmaster with toasts to We Gerard E. W. Hill R. March L. C. Streator A. C. Thompson C. C. Kile R. H. Hunter F. E. Munroe and Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Manning and Mrs. Earl Cardinal. H. F. Davis performed an imitation of George Collins' work to cheers.

Names include M W B R H Burns as master, Nellie Wightman as mistress, O C Adams as warden, A J Laidlaw as secretary, J O Sinclair as treasurer, Nessie Hendrickson as quatermaster, Daisy Carter as quarter flag, Etta Sabin as quarter clerk, Nellie Rice as patriotic worker, M R Bell as grand worker, Henry Kurz as grand keeper, O B Ellingboe as trustee, Dr Landmark as physician, and Ella Wilson as organist.
County clerk records show bounty payments for wildlife during the past week. W C Hall of Lawrence claimed one wolf and one wild cat on December 7, Perry Bell of Flambeaux claimed a wild cat on December 9, and Earl Haskins True claimed two wild cats.
The county clerk issued two marriage licenses this past week in Ladysmith. Lawrence Vance and Della Burlin, both of Ladysmith, were licensed on December 7. Emil Carl Peterson and Margaret J. McGill, both of Ladysmith, were licensed on December 7.
W. F. Pagel sold his Wordenav barber shop to Frank Stair of Bruce who took possession Monday. Stair moved his family here last week and is a first class barber who has run a Bruce barber shop and picture theater for the past three years.
Mr. Levi Tatroe, staying in Stanley, reports an English firm is buying pine and rock elm in Wisconsin Michigan and Minnesota to form square timber for ocean going vessels. A timber tract near Ladysmith sold for 50000 dollars as crews work across the region.
Robt Corbett of Ladysmith died at the Swedish hospital in Minneapolis at 10:00 a m Tuesday December 3 1912 aged 71 years 5 months He leaves a wife three sons Wm H of Minneapolis John A of Seattle and Lester L of Ladysmith a daughter Mrs Ella Fillmore a brother John Corbett and a sister Mrs Thos Dalziel The funeral under Masonic auspices was held at his residence then at Riverside cemetery Rev C H Sanders Rev Hocking officiated with E Bassett and Mark Eubanks in attendance Floral emblems came from local Masons and G A R friends as well as out of town relatives Born July 3 1841 in Moors NY he served in Co G 16th Wisconsin Vol Inf during the Civil War He married Louisa Hunter October 24 1867 in Menomonie WI He moved to Flam beau Falls now Ladysmith in 1885 building and operating a sawmill He was among the first settlers and served as Ladysmith postmaster He belonged to Blue Lodge F and A M Royal Arch Eastern Star G A R and J O O F.
Lucius Daniel Thayer aged 60 years 11 months 3 days died from injuries after being run over on a crossing Navy 27. He leaves a wife three sons George Arthur and Ralph a daughter Catherine and his mother Mrs Rebecca Thayer. He resided on a farm five miles south of the city for 11 years. Funeral Monday at the Christian church Rev C M McKay officiating burial in Riverside with many Maple Center and Cleveland visitors including sister Mrs Geo Davis of Cleveland Minnesota.

Milwaukee December 9 1912 News from the Wisconsin Anti Tuberculosis Association headquarters states Christmas Seal sales will be larger in villages and rural schools this year with over two hundred small villages to manage campaigns. Farmers request seals and rural school orders are heavier than ever while President Van Hise of the State University praises the association and hopes for broader health gains.
Renssalaer Myers aged 88 died at his son’s home 204 Scott Street Joliet after eight weeks ill with illness begun from a cold after an auto trip to his farm in Seward. Born May 21 1824 in Oneida County New York he moved to Kendall County and later Morris before settling in Seward. He married Smily Sunningshine in 1867 and leaves four children including Mrs Julia Ryall of Ladysmith Wisconsin. Funeral Sunday December 8 at 1 PM from Seward home with burial in Chapmann Cemetery.
