Leo Rybarczyk aged 20 who lived with his parents six miles north of Hawkins was killed when a tree fell on him Tuesday afternoon while working at Ellingson Lumber Co. camp 11. The funeral was held yesterday at the Polish cemetery north of Hawkins with Rev. Father Hyacinth of Ladysmith officiating.
George Baxter of near Vesper proves cucumbers yield big money in central Wisconsin. He planted 738 square rods, produced 1787 pounds weighing 195 bushels and earned 126.57 on one tract, indicating over 250 per acre in gross pickle income according to the pickle station records.
The bout between Cal Johnson of Duluth and Ted Kilgore of this city at the opera house was halted after Johnsons arm was dislocated. Two preliminaries occurred, Petrick beat Lepley two falls to one, Heft drew with Riley in six rounds, and Kopp defeated Adams in six rounds. Johnson and Kilgore will rematch when Johnson recovers.
A Prescher suffered a broken right arm near the shoulder when a hay load tipped over on him near Elmer Nelson's store Monday. He fell hard to the frozen ground and was taken to Marshfield hospital after first being attended by Dr. Stephenson.
Wisconsin farmers report using Angora and common goats to clear dense brush. A former legislator, T. M. Thomas of Ladysmith, managed 90 acres with two goats per acre for a season and a half, leaving brush gone and selling surplus goats at South St. Paul stock yards for 3.50 each. Logger Seriously Sir L. E. Swan of Bloomer, a well known pioneer in the region, suddenly fell ill at Weirger last Friday and lapsed into unconsciousness. Heart trouble was suspected. He was brought home Saturday and remained unconscious on arrival. Given his advanced age, recovery is uncertain.
The New Unique theater in West Second Street, managed by M. C. Martin, opens next Tuesday with a five reel feature The Battle of Gettysburg. The modern 500 seat venue has three boxes, good heating and ventilation, and thrilling vaudeville acts. Admission is 5 and 10 cents.
Senior editor and his wife celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary with about fifty guests at Woodmen hall. Rev Geo Hansen officiated, supper followed at the couple’s home, and Mr and Mrs Richardson received many beautiful presents. A royal charivari capped the festive evening.
George McKerrow announced his resignation as superintendent of the Wisconsin farmers institutes at season's end after twenty five years in the post He led annual institutes across the state and helped create the American association of farmers institute workers eighteen years ago He will continue as superintendent through the current season.
