Death Takes a Pioneer Joseph Bowen of Exeland
Joseph Russell Bowen aged 89 years and 6 months died at his daughter's home in Exeland on Friday August 24. He was buried in Durand after preparation by J P Pederson of Ladysmith. Bowen, a Canadian, moved to Pepin county fifty years ago and recently lived with his son in Ladysmith and his daughter in Exeland.

Paper mill runs as usual after first Ladysmith strike

Three Men Detained in Sheriff’s Hotel Over Break-In
Frank Chalvek, aged 29, was arrested last Friday for breaking into a house at night. He pleaded not guilty before Justice Reeves and was remanded to jail in default of $100 bail with an adjourned hearing set for Sept. 6. Cattle Shipped From Rusk and Sawyer to Chicago
Two cars of cattle were brought to Ladysmith Thursday and shipped to Chicago Friday by Stelzman Hand. Mr. Hand praised G. J. Hockhstettler of Exeland for the fat grass fed cattle. Cars were gathered at Exeland and Murry at 4 to 7 cents, with another load in pasture and plans to buy in Glen Flora and Ingram next week.

Visiting Masons from Barron Chetek Bloomer and Glen Flora joined Mystic Tie Lodge No 280 for the fourth annual picnic in Ladysmith.
