Hans Hanson a Swedish comedy with four acts and sentimental intrigue premieres at Worden's Opera House in Ladysmith next Tuesday evening Sept 2. The company presents its own concert band and orchestra for musical numbers across the performance with ticket prices at 25 35 and 50 cents.
The sixth annual report of the State Fire Marshal Department, filed with the governor, stresses national and state fire waste, cites methods to reduce losses, and notes 60 percent of Wisconsin fires stem from preventable causes. Rev. Rutland traveled to St Paul on Wednesday to take part in a lecture course for ministers. A new cement walk is being laid before R. S. Johnson's fine residence on Wordenay.
The Rusk County Auto Club admits L. Me Soule Henry Wilson L. C. Streator Bio French H. A. Dimock W. S. Manning O. B. Ellingboe and Harry Ballou to its roster. Officers are E. M. Worden president H. W. True treasurer and T. M. Thomas secretary.
Frank Hughes sustained minor injuries when a runaway team belonging to Mrs. Charlotte Copas collided with the Ford he drove near the Shaw dam road a mile north of the city. The Michaelson & Hughes auto suffered heavy damage, at least seventy five dollars, with a demolished windshield and injuries to Hughes including cut fingers. The team-drawn wagon struck as the car turned a corner, offering little chance to avoid impact.
Kinyon and Scott near completion open next Monday with space for over thirty teams without unhitching and room for thirty head horses after partition. Dr Kinyan will run veterinary offices, with a ladies waiting room. Second floor offers three six room flats and a rear hay area plus store room and elevator for wood to flats.
County Superintendent O E Rice reports a new No 3 Hub district organized near Shaw dam with a school building planned on Gates road. Twenty two candidates sought teaching certificates at last week’s exams and teachers must notify openings. Ladysmith baseball team defeated Glen Flora 19 to 5 on the local diamond. A rematch with Cameron is planned for next Sunday, promising an exciting game and strong fan support. Work on Menasha Wooden Ware Co. dam has resumed after prioritizing a large dry-kiln, with completion still several steps away.
Lee Van Patter of Glen Flora and his son, a state league pitcher, were in town Monday evening. The News-Budget notes a large share of county children have never visited a county fair and urges city schools and the county training school to cooperate in making exhibits and attending.
At the start of the term on September 2 the St Marys school will open a first and second year high school course in addition to the eight grades. Latin and German will be taught and pupils from other localities and non Catholics may enter the school.
Upper Wisconsin resident Sam Johnson, three miles south of town, spoke on his extended Indiana trip. He noted crops were good there but drought was beginning, and he is glad to be back in Wisconsin. Johnson planted eighteen acres of peas last spring, costing $710.47 for seed and labor, similar to oats costs. He mentioned a Sunday frost in Indiana and expected worse conditions locally, praising Wisconsin’s resilience.
The County Normal School began its seventh year on Monday August 25 1918 with building and grounds in excellent condition. Enrollment includes Sheldon Leo Austin Arlia Grandy Alice West Lillian White Holcombe Ruth Breed Bernie Paulson and many others from towns such as Thornapple Flambeau Grant Dewey and Conrath.
Mr and Mrs Leo Chriske thank friends for kindness sympathy and condolence after the death of their son.

Ernest Van Houten of this city was killed in Enderlin North Dakota on Monday when a runaway frightened his team. He fell beneath the wagon after stepping onto the tongue and died about thirty minutes later. One horse died at the hitching rack near Riverside cemetery, and Ernest’s funeral was held at the Christian church with Rev. J D Howe officiating.
Glen Moyer two years old son of Mr and Mrs Jess Moyer of the east end died Wednesday night from summer complaint. The funeral will be held today.
Mary Ellen Weston age 1% years, daughter of Mr and Mrs Robt N Weston of Maple Hill, died Wednesday from summer complaint. Funeral held yesterday at the Christian church with Rev Howe officiating. Burial followed at Riverside.
Have Fine Trip Elmer Nelson, J. L. McComson, S. lL. Chicker, A. O. Brovan, all of this city, Irwin Sergeant, of Rice Lake, and Rodney Smith, of Downsville, Wis., a brother-in-law of Mr. Brovan, wound up an eight-days' trip down the Flambeau from Park Falls last Saturday noon. They enjoyed the outing immensely. Half a day was spent by the party at Connor's Lake, which they speak of as one of the most beautiful places in northern Wisconsin.
The Ideal Harp Orchestra will furnish music for a dance at the opera house Saturday evening.
Engineers forecast the Minneapolis, St. Paul and Sault Ste. Marie line will open a Chicago freight terminal by December 1 at a cost exceeding $10,000,000. A 1,200 worker site covers eleven blocks from Twelfth to Fifteenth streets and Halsted, with deck tracks to avoid grade crossings.
