The M. E. congregation announces plans for a new, dignified place of worship to serve the community. Details outline a modern building program, funding efforts, and timing for groundbreaking and dedication.
Excavation has begun for the new Methodist Episcopal church in Rusk County. The brick structure facing Miner Avenue will be a modern 60 by 124 foot building with a 500-seat auditorium, gymnasium, organ loft, and basement club room, costing over $20,000 and using Ladysmith and Milwaukee pressed brick.
Rice Lake Masons hosted a picnic at Red Cedar river park on a Wednesday afternoon. Members from nearby areas attended with boat rides on the lake and city auto tours. Attendees from Ladysmith included Mr and Mrs W J Kermott C C Kile Mrs Helen Paino and Jac Speich who traveled in Kermott's car.
Despite ammunition production rising, local sportsmen in Rusk county face steep price hikes this season. Shells cost a dollar or more per box, automatic rifle cartridges rise to about 2.30, and rifles are 25 to 30 percent pricier.

Confirmation services will be held at the German Lutheran church Sunday morning at ten o'clock for a class of seven one boy and six girls. The confirmants are Herman Rauhut Hanna Andresen Lena Erdman El sie Oldendorf Eva Spiegelberg Min na Baufknecht and Maria Erdman. Rev. H Baumbach will officiate at the ceremony.
A Sunday thunderstorm struck Sam Johnson's farm causing a fire that destroyed the barn and 85 tons of hay plus farm tools. No livestock were harmed. The loss is about 3500 dollars, partially insured. Lightning also damaged the school roof, knocked down a chimney, and tore awnings across several city businesses amid widespread minor damage.
Several hundred people attended the Equity picnic at Mattoon s grove in Tony Sunday and heard a Cumberland Equity speaker outline cooperative benefits. An Equity association exists at Tony and expansion plans include more county branches. Races followed with winners Clarence Depew and Clarence Cornelissen in the blueberry race, Harry Nelson and Levi Mautner in the sack race, Winnie Buckingham and Agnes Swanson in the peanut race.
Clara J M Almquist and Lawrence N Edling were married at the Almquist home in Lewis on Monday August 21 at 1130 AM. Rev August G Sommer officiated under an oak arch. Esther Edling and Victor Almquist served as bridesmaid and groomsman. About 100 guests attended followed by a dance and late supper before the couple departed for Minneapolis. They will reside in Ladysmith where the groom works.
R. W. Lane, proprietor, relocates his stock to a new site in the Ben Stelzman building on West Mineray, consolidating the Music and Novelty Shop operations at the new West Mineray address.
Sam Broom of Oshkosh aged about 35 slipped while trying to board a southbound extra caboose. His hands were crushed. he suffered severe facial injuries and body trauma. He was dragged a short distance, treated at the Commercial hotel, then had his right hand amputated at Dr. O’Connor’s office. part of the left hand was removed but a thumb and two fingers were saved. He returned home that evening.
Ex Attorney General Emmett R. Hicks of Oshkosh spoke at the court house on Tuesday evening as a Republican candidate for attorney general. He criticized former governor McGovern and praised Governor Phillips for tax savings in Rusk County totaling nearly 12 000 over 1913 and 1915. He also commented on federal politics, tariff, and LaFollette, and declared support for women's suffrage.
O F Bickmeyer and wife and George Ott and wife from Meteor Missouri traveled to Ladysmith yesterday and spent a few hours shopping, making a brief visitor outing in the area.

The Northern Supply Co. sells its flour and feed business to Morgan Produce Co. Frank Langenbach, longtime manager, becomes a traveling salesman for Morgan and will reside at Osceola.
