The Guernsey Breeders Association will meet in the city next Friday to discuss registry, show standards, and breeder cooperative plans. Officers and members from local clubs are expected to attend the session at the community hall.
The Rusk County Guernsey Breeders Association holds its mid summer meeting at the courthouse in this city next Friday afternoon August 14 at 1 30 p m. Every farmer in the county is cordially invited. F H Scribner of the U S Department of Agriculture will speak on dairy farming in upper Wisconsin and Chas L Hill of Rosendale ex president of the American Guernsey Cattle Club will extol the breed. Other talks will cover current dairy topics and refreshments will be free.
J Harry Bullock state secretary of Bible schools for the Churches of Christ in Wisconsin will conduct an all day rally at the Ladysmith Church of Christ next Sunday. Morning service attendees should bring lunch and stay for the 3 pm session. A basket dinner will follow in the new building with a social time. The 8 pm service will address Bible school workers and invites all in the city and community to attend.
L Larson recovered a silver dollar from his Glen Flora home fire three years ago. The coin was badly melted and the value may not exceed twenty five percent. A Canadian ten cent piece was found melted into the dollar, leaving legible words to identify the coin. The Rusk County Bank notes the curiosity and links it to the blaze.
Mrs James Madison of this city died at Michael Reese hospital in Chicago Monday after an appendicitis operation. She was 37. Mr Madison went to Chicago on word of her death and the funeral was held there Thursday. She was formerly Mrs T C Shippee and had lived here since her recent marriage about a year ago.
Rush Razee, a noted marksman, performed an exhibition on Corbett's lake shore under Karst's Hardware. He showcased Remington arms and ammunition with remarkable shots, though limited by press day constraints preventing a full write up.

After a Monday supper at the Methodist church the fourth quarterly Conference held its business session. The body invited the West Wisconsin Conference to convene at Ladysmith in August 1915 in the new church. The conference includes 150 ministers and as many laymen. Mayor Thompson was elected delegate to the Laymen's Association meeting at Richland Center August 28. Rev. C L Hocking was asked to continue as pastor. A vote of appreciation for Rev. J W Irish was given as his Ashland District superintendent term ends this month.
Tom Morris progressive Republican candidate launches southern county tour from Madison. A branch headquarters coordinates routing as Morris campaigns in Dane Iowa and other counties. Supporters say state-wide sentiment favors his nomination and will boost Wisconsin progressives in the Sept 1 election.
E M Worden resumes control of the Cash Department Store on Monday retaining the same name. He offers a refreshed stock after disposing old inventory and purchasing new goods in the twin cities this week. Elmo Inabnit serves as sales manager with Frank Cowin and Miss Mabel Barrett as clerks.
County Superintendent O E Rice notes excess teachers vs schools prompting hires in North Dakota. Expires this summer are numerous certificates requiring fall exams. Bulletin lists names, urges steel seats, durable desks, proper maps, globes, slate blackboards, and slate supply. An approved text-book list will be published next week to standardize county schools.
Ladysmith edged the Rice Lake Shamrocks 1 to 0 in a superb Sunday matchup. Both teams pitched well and played tight defense, with Ladysmith breaking through in the seventh inning to plate the lone run.
The St. Paul Pioneer Press will devote at least one page and likely two for four weeks starting August 16 to boost Rusk County. A representative gathered material and abundant advertising supports the coverage.
W S Sergeant of Sheldon and Cameron Drake from Conrath visited Ladysmith today. G T Stine traveled to Chicago on business, returning today. Miss Selma Groeschel came back from Oshkosh after attending the F R A Convention. Osmar Kuenne and two daughters are guests at Carl Jung's home. Kuenne is Jung’s son in law. Anton Gorisek of Indianapolis visited to survey land and plans for a settlers colony in Rusk County. A full line of mounting boards is available at the News Budget office.
Austrian worker Alex Hanat on Conrath station platform with a fatal head wound. Doctors declare skull crushed. foul play unlikely. He had travelled from Sheldon on the mixed, attempted to board the Velvet Special, died at 12:35 in Coroner Ellingboe's morgue. Coroner contacts Lublin relatives.
The Cash Department Store announces it will purchase butter and eggs from farmers for cash. E. M. Worden is the proprietor.
Edward Richardson, editor of the Glen Flora Star, reports in the county seat. A farm insurance ad promises fire, lightning and tornado coverage for 1.75 for three years from Michaelson Hughes, billed as the largest and oldest agency in the city.
Bids will be received for lathing and stuccoing the outside of the Scandinavian Lutheran church according to plans and specifications of the building committee. Plans and specifications available from John Sands, committee foreman. Bids must be sent to John Sands by August 10, 1914. Committee may reject any or all bids.

The Menasha Wooden Ware Co plans a solid brick fire proof boiler house with a steel roof and a new brick pumphouse adjacent to the Menasha Paper Co. pumps will serve both plants and are connected to the boilers, replacing a disabled pump during last spring’s fire. The old stack was razed on a wooden foundation after a near collapse. Plant shutdown occurred Monday and Tuesday with operations resuming Wednesday.

J. T. Gallo secured a judgment for costs in Justice Reeves' court after a Saturday replevin suit against O. C. and Louis Skinner. The order requires the return of lumber Gallo says was taken from a pile he bought at Skinner auction held July 5 before their departure for Illinois.
Bids on the new high school were opened Tuesday night and awarded to Hans P. Knudsen of Waupaca for 48860, excluding heating, plumbing, fixtures, and furniture. Other bidders included Western Construction Co and A H Jurevine. Excavation starts at once. on-site houses unsold due to speculative bids. Plumbing and ventilation bids to be opened August 17 at 7 00 p.m.
Louis R. Patmont, the missing temperance worker, was found working as a teamster in a northern Wisconsin lumber town. He previously escaped a Soo Line train near Neenah while en route from Ladysmith to Milwaukee. He reports clearer thinking and remains wary of alleged pursuers while planning to stay and work to rebuild.
Mrs. Woodrow Wilson died at the White House at 5 o'clock. The president held her hand as she passed away. Her three daughters knelt at her bedside as six physicians assisted. The Senate and House adjourned and a funeral representation was arranged.
