Will Motorize Paper Mill In Rusk County
In response to fuel shortages, Menasha Paper Co plans to replace steam with direct electrical drive across its mills in the city. A transmission line will link the Port Arthur dam to the mills, bringing in outside power and allowing motors on each machine. Sterling Electric Co of Minneapolis has the installation contract.

Manager Allen distributed new telephone directories Saturday. The Ladysmith exchange serves 519 city phones and 164 rural lines, totaling 685, the highest in local history. Only six switchboard blanks remain, with a fall installation of a $10,000 system to enable self starters and no ringing on uncalled party lines. Installation will begin soon and finish before year end.

Falls From Roof Kill Farm Resident David Crandell
David Crandell aged 64 of a farm just south of the city limits died from injuries suffered Monday after a fall from scaffolding while renovating his residence roof. He remained conscious after a neck fracture and was moved to St. Marys hospital but died Thursday evening. He is survived by his wife.
