In a Hawkins letter Mrs. Cuff relays praise from the 339th about Lieut. Frank W. Cuff. He fought with two bullet wounds until killed, leading his men two miles with a bullet through his hip and another in his leg. His head was crushed as relief came. he urged his men to escape if possible. The Hawkins Reporter notes his honorable death.

B J Fuller editor of The Free Press and his brother Fred Leonard were injured when their cars, a Leonard vehicle and an Overland from the Erickson brothers of Worcester, collided head on near Prentice. Fuller suffered an eight stitch cut and partial ear loss. Leonard had numerous bruises. Erickson drivers Oscar and George were unhurt.

First Western Sheep Arrive Amid Drought Shipping
The first consignment of western sheep arrived Saturday due to drought conditions in Montana. The 12 carloads carried 1900 ewes and 1600 lambs from Sieber & Grimes of Helena and were placed near M. O. Emmons. a further thousand sheep arrived Tuesday and were moved to the W. Ti. Schallol place nine miles northeast of town.

Lightning strike injures child as house is hit
A residence owned by C. Linquist nine miles east of town and about 83 miles southeast of Tony was struck by lightning early Sunday at 2:50. All family members were stunned but none seriously hurt. A brick from the chimney demolished in the strike struck a nine year old boy causing a scalp wound and brief unconsciousness. a large shepherd dog at the boy’s feet was killed.

Conrath Man Dies After Appendicitis Operation
Frank Borkowski of Conrath died at St Marys hospital Monday evening after an operation to save his life proved futile. He was 59 years 9 months and 24 days old and leaves a wife and several children. The funeral was held at Conrath Catholic church Wednesday morning with burial in Conrath cemetery.

Lightning Strikes Several Homes In Weekend Storms
A heavy rainstorm and prior electrical storm struck several houses Friday morning with damage limited to minor shocks and plaster tears. Dr. Johnson’s residence suffered the worst, Mrs. Johnson was shocked, carpenters were shaken, and telephones and schoolhouse moulding were damaged. A second Sunday storm caused no damage, but telephones were again knocked out.

A thief or thieves burglarized Fults Garage and the Sanitary Meat Market last night. At the garage a rear door was left open and five tire casings valued over 150 dollars were stolen along with about seven dollars in cash and stamps. The meat market was entered through a broken rear window. the safe was rifled but nothing taken. Cash and small change were modestly disturbed.
