Nick Schwegel and his brother Al Schweegel have purchased the Aldinger Market at Bozza and Washington Avenue. The Schwegel brothers signed a contract with Retail Local No. 244, bringing it to the auction of organized labor. Nick Schwegel was discharged from the service in December after 17 months on a naval ship in the South Pacific, where he served as a ship’s cook and butcher.

Draper has chaired the Madison Parent Teachers Association for eighteen months while her husband R. E. Draper works with the Shell Petroline Company as an operating engineer.
In a Wood River Central Labor Union election Guy Harper of the Leather Workers was reelected president for a seventh term. Frank Glover of the Pipe Fitters was installed as vice president. Taylor Elliot of the Operating Engineers was secretary, George Graham of the Insulators reelected treasurer, Henry Castleberry of the Laborers reelected trustee, Ispas (William Tometlin) of the Teamsters reelected, and Joe Howarovich of Local 817 Painters newly elected Harold Tant of Leather Workers to a guard role.
