The passage recalls 1956 La Marque Tigers football and a hurricane scare named Fern. It also covers city police department funding, a $886 tech equipment loan, and expanded records storage at the La Marque jail with I D room and two offices.
Nine directors of Guaranty Federal, all but one based in Galveston County, voted for proxy procedures at a duly called meeting with Hudspeth opposing. Directors named include Holliday Mensing Michaelis Ritter Schmidt Smith Harder Leopold and Gerhart, with years of association ranging from 7 to 33. They urge members to immediately sign and return new proxy cards mailed last week. Elks Lodge 2141 Ladies Auxiliary to hold monthly social September 15 at 8 p.m. at 2200 Lake Road.
Albert Jet Hirsch son of Iris Hirsch and Gail Patricia Ford daughter of Dr and Mrs G David Ford, both La Marque High School graduates, attend Southwestern University Georgetown as fall semester began August 27. Orientation programs theme Becoming the International Man aim to provide intellectual stimulation entertainment and life at Southwestern.
Former Mayflower Warehousemen’s Association member and director Rogers died in February. A World War II Coast Guard honorary sub lieutenant, he aided parolees in Texas and helped with job placement. Survived by wife Delia Lou, son Harry W. Rogers Jr, daughter Mrs James L. Watters, sister Mrs John Maxwell, and two granddaughters. Services by Rev Ralph Bucy at La Marque Presbyterian Church with Galveston Memorial Park burial. Pallbearers listed. honorary pallbearers include Kiwanis members. Memorials to Shriners Burns Institute or Masonic Home for Children in Fort Worth requested.
Youth groups unite for a community cleanup at Bayou Chan tilly entrance with hoes rakes and electric mowers. They award prizes for best efforts share a communal dinner and plan talks on vocations. Dr Don Tucker speaks on pet care while a ballet lesson and art activity engage families and neighbors.
The chamber gave unanimous appreciation for a fine effort and praised all who contributed to the publication. Stan Shepard, committee chairman, said any remaining funds would be used to publish a fold-out brochure.

City Manager Treaster notes a Texas Water Quality Board visit to Ditch 12-A and valves opened to drain sewer overflow. Clean-up drive reports 168 tons of rubbish collected.
