September Gardening Checklist for Lawn and Flowers
Garden guide advises establishing lawn grasses in September with St Augustine Bermuda or Zoysia. Watch for scale insects and use Malathion or diazinon. Plan plantings for landscape solar, set out annuals like African daisies and pansies, and sow cool season vegetables such as cabbage and spinach. Divide and transplant bearded iris and day lilies, fertilize chrysanthemums, store gladioli, and clean bulbs. Mark trees for possible future transplant, store spring bulbs for fall planting, and remove faded annuals. Consider another insecticide for chinch bugs to prevent overwintering.
