The La Marque Independent School District celebrated staff milestones with service pins for five, ten, fifteen, twenty, twenty five, and thirty years. Retirements were acknowledged, and Kathy Diane Lessa won $100 and a state plaque for a Panama Canal essay contest placement.

Tie in for Hitchcock water via La Marque plan okayed
In a special session La Marque Texas City and Hitchcock discussed Hitchcock receiving surface water through La Marque lines. Hitchcock favored tying to Texas City. Galveston water was ruled too costly, river water with own plant too expensive. La Marque would not profit and any extra cost would hit Hitchcock. Texas City would back the tie if La Marque Hitchcock agreement reached. La Marque also seeks CETA funds for housing rehab demolition clean up and hydrant work plus a city secretary for housing and development tasks.

Armacost Receives Outstanding Alumnus Award at Tiffin
Dale Armacost of La Marque was honored at Tiffin University’s alumni banquet in Ohio with the Outstanding Alumnus of the Year for 1977. He serves as division controller for Marathon Oil’s Texas refining division and is active in American Legion Masons Elks Girl Scouts Junior Achievement and the Chamber of Commerce.
