Summer rose care for strong plants and blooms
Preston Poole recommends summer care for roses to ensure attractive plants and abundant fall flowers. Remove spent blooms above the second five leaflet leaf, discard weak or diseased wood, fertilize every four to six weeks with a general fertilizer, and stop feeding after early August. Water deeply weekly in hot dry weather, continue disease prevention sprays, and treat blackspot with Maneb or Phaltan while using Malathion or Kelthane for spider mites.
