The La Marque school board president and his family, John and Carolyn Nolte with Tim 12 Todd 9 and Nan 1/4, waited in the Houston Ship Channel from 8 p.m. until nearly midnight after their boat motor failed to start. A tug signaled for help and Coast Guard rescue followed, prompting the Noltes to upgrade their gear with a new battery and a ship to shore radio.

Memorial Hospital Board approves raises and new holiday
The Galveston County Memorial Hospital board voted to raise wages by 25 cents per hour or 6 percent, whichever is greater, with a $2 minimum wage for permanent staff starting July 1 1971. Youth Dies From Drug Overdose
La Marque police said preliminary findings indicate an 18 year old James Laverne Sheats died from a drug overdose. He was found in the yard of a Lake Road residence early Monday and was unknown to the occupants. Survivors include his mother Mrs Harvey Graves of Fultondale Alabama and an aunt Barbara Hidon of Prattville Alabama. Funeral services will be held at Brown Service Funeral Home in Birmingham Alabama.
