The Texas City plant announces R. E. Corkrean promoted to personnel and industrial relations manager effective February 1 1969. He succeeds C. T. Doyle who resigned to join Old National Insurance Co as vice president and secretary in Montgomery Alabama. Corkrean has a history with Carbide dating to 1944.

Police Report Two Men Charged With Drug Possession

La Marque officers stopped a vehicle on a routine patrol after a U turn at Oak Street and FM 1765. The driver signaled right and officers approached from both sides. The charge of possession of dangerous drugs was filed against two men.

Dr Black Will Not Seek Post After 25 Years In Education

Dr E H Black announces he will not seek reelection to the board of trustees in the April 5 election after 25 years serving parents board members administrators teachers and pupils. He will remain in La Marque and aid education there while expressing gratitude for community support. In a separate police report a driver and passenger encountered drugs during a stop near Cedar Drive and Bluebonnet on routine patrol.

American Oil Taxes Benefit Schools Most

American Oil Company paid more than 2.25 million in ad valorem taxes on its Texas City refinery. Texas City ISD received 946,598.18, the refinery’s largest tax payment and the district’s biggest taxpayer. Galveston County and Texas State shared 770,690.85, with other payments to City of Texas City 433,582.61 Mainland Junior College 129,892.59 and La Marque ISD 2,724.67. The bill was the refinery’s largest ever.
