Cutoff Date For GI Educational Benefits

Millions of veterans could lose part or all of their GI educational benefits if they do not act promptly. The Veterans Administration warned that those discharged between January 31, 1955 and June 1, 1966 face a May 31, 1974 expiration for eligibility, with eight years to use benefits from the date they became available in 1966. Some training types such as flight, apprentice and on the job, and farm cooperative training extend to August 31, 1975 or eight years after discharge, whichever is later. VA urged interested veterans to contact VA offices or veterans service organizations.
