La Marque High Wins State Student Council Honors
Members of the La Marque High School student association earned state recognition at the Texas Association of Student Councils convention in Austin. The delegation claimed the presidency of the largest student organization in the nation and received district 13 honors for outstanding student council and outstanding safety school. Their campaign included diverse materials, district support, and cookies baked by volunteers from area schools.

IRS Expands Office Hours in Galveston Nearby Deadline
The IRS extends public assistance hours as the tax filing deadline nears. Galveston Administrative Officer Lou Jannasch says the office will stay open all day on the two Saturdays April 7 and 14 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. On Monday April 16 the office operates 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. regular hours.

Four year old dies after La Marque crash
Laura Lynn Corner of 3127 Steveroy La Marque died Friday at Galveston County Memorial Hospital from injuries from an early morning two car collision at FM 1765 and Vautier Road. The car driven by Laura’s mother Nancy Corner was struck on the right side by a westbound truck driven by Robert E Booker. Nancy Corner and a two month old baby Thomas Austin sustained minor injuries. Booker was not hurt. Laura was rushed to the hospital at 6:40 a.m. and died at 12:40 p.m. This was Galveston County’s ninth traffic fatality of the year. Investigation complete. no charges filed.
