Archbold vice president of Standard Oil issued a public statement denying any Standard Oil involvement in opposing Roosevelt policies. He attacked small merchants and alleged lawmakers, saying big rivals and press pressure unfairly frame the issue while little merchants face legal risk.
George L. Goh resigns from a $10,000 post as superintendent of Carnegie Steel to study at Western Theological Seminary. He aims to show steel workers there is more than money and plans to enter the ministry.
President Roosevelt abandoned his summer capital and returned to Washington after a crowded send off at Oyster Bay. He spoke from the rear platform of his car prior to leaving in a special three car train. The article notes the town’s regret and hints this may be his last Oyster Bay residence.
