The new mill started Monday and has run smoothly with one day shift. The elevator is filled with grain as wheat piles up, and output has increased under the new management. Freight shipments from this city are already large and will rise further this year.
A group of girls gathered at L L McKennon's home in Alicel Oregon last Thursday for a farewell in honor of Miss Fannie McKennon and her parents who depart east next week. They enjoyed piano mandolin and guitar pieces followed by ice cream cake recitations and songs. Others present included Mrs E Moore and many local girls and visitors. The week also brings Bertha Blattner from Weiser Idaho visiting Mrs E J Conrad as Lone Star school reopens next Monday with Fred Fox teaching. Mrs Lena McRae of Wallowa returns home after a visit, and Arthur Woodell recovers from a recent accident. E J Conrad and son Heber plan to travel to Malheur county this week to tend their interests.
The Baker Democrat reports a large shipment for Ox Bow Electrical Power Co arriving at BR and N depot Baker. Goods unloaded for Snake River transport include boilers weighing 11 000 and 12 000 pounds a 14 000 pound boiler and compressor an 8000 pound concrete mixer and a carload of dump cars. Further machinery cars are expected daily.
All persons owing money are urged to call and settle promptly to help set up the business affairs. Books are available at the Lilly Foster Hardware company store for settlement.
