Hungry Girls Searching for Breakfast in Hilgard Town
A party of five La Grande young women rode from Menjirs camp toward Hilgard seeking breakfast after a long ride. They faced delays at several spots before Mrs. Hawes helped with a hot meal. The group included Etella Oliver, Imogen Russell, Nelle Grimmett, Jean McDonald, and Migs Young of Walla Walla. A. MeeGee, an old prospector, reported discovering a promising gold bearing ledge on Mt Emily's eastern slope and sent ore samples to Denver for assay.
