Graft Trial Testimony Ties Ruef Case to Bribe Claims
Former chauffeur A Lathan testified on the stand that Detective Burns urged him to lie to the grand jury during graft investigations. Lathan implicated Barn in bribery before May 1906, admitting he later signed an affidavit at Boyne's request after revealing he took fuel to United Railroads offices and found a box he believed held bribe money. Burns and Ruef were named as influencing factors in his false testimony.
