A hurricane like wind storm struck Grande Ronde and surrounding towns causing widespread damage. Roofs and walls failed in Gran de Ronde city centers while round houses, plate glass, and electric lines suffered extensive destruction. Several homes shifted on foundations and tele graph lines were cut off affecting news service from Portland to Meacham and Pendleton.
Washington reports operations at 32 hatcheries produced more than 1.5 billion fry and fingerlings. Species tallies include black spotted trout, brook trout, bass, sunfish, pike perch, whitefish, ratfish, yellow perch, cod, lobsters, chinook salmon, lake herring, shad, and others. Output shortfalls noted for black bass, crappie, and catfishes.
Lendon Nov 15 reports the total value of pig iron shipped from this country to the United States this year stands at 1 376 985 with hundreds of tons awaiting shipment from Newcastle on Tyne Shields Cardiff Swansea and other ports.
Mrs. Vina Winkier, aged 96, of Kakoma in this state, leads a family of six generations. She is ancestor to eighty six grandchildren, thirty great great grandchildren and three great great great grandchildren. Her oldest child, Mrs. Anna Durbin of Charleston Illinois, is 76.

Dr Frederick A Cook and Russell W Porter reach Seattle after the Mount McKinley ascent the first on September 6. The expedition failed three times before success and will publish a map of the Mount McKinlay District. An unnamed peak 13 000 to 16 690 feet high was found south of Mount McKinley. The party explored over 5 000 miles of terrain south and southeast of the big mountain.
Geo Ball, rural mail carrier on route one, was hurled about twenty five feet by a sudden wind storm nine miles from La Grande. His horse and covered wagon were thrown over a wire fence. Ball suffered bruises but is not seriously hurt and plans to continue his circuit today.
Telegraph lines in the Northwest fail for most of the day isolating La Grande from outside points. Western Union linked briefly with the East. all lines east of Huntington down. Severe tangle in the Blue Mountains blocks Pendleton access by telegraph or telephone until tomorrow morning. OssnAVER reports only scattered telegraph news.
