Sporting editors from two papers agree Frank Klause defeated Billy Papke in a six round bout without a decision. A third editor favored Papke. The fighters exchanged blows from the opening bell with constant action through all six rounds.
In a violent night mobs swept the streets after a murder and executions left authorities in contact with Governor Deneen. State troops rushed to the city to restore order as black residents sought protection amid lingering fear after scenes recalled from two years prior in Springfield.
Bud Barnes was hanged at 6 30 this morning in Walla Walla for the murder of Mrs Anna Aldrich on April 30 1908. He walked to the scaffold with Father Jones and was dead in 13 12 minutes. He enticed the 76 year old woman to Copper Creek to obtain her land. The body was found four days later. Continued on Page Eight.
Col Marshall of the U S engineering department releases a report proposing 1.56 million dollars for opening the Columbia mouth and river sections. The plan lists allocations for multiple river segments from The Dalles to Celilo Falls, Willamette, Puget Sound tributaries, and related canales and harbors with figures ranging from thousands to over a million dollars.

News of the Baker City death of Mrs. T. D. Parks after about three weeks illness. She will be buried here next Sunday. She was 56 and a pioneer of Union county, living in Baker City 25 years. Survived by husband two daughters Ethel Holladay Susie Snook, one brother H. P. Lewis, and four sisters in La Grande Spokane Portland and Portland.
Laudermilk of Hot Lake was arrested by Constable Faulk and brought before Justice Williams to answer to trespass charge. W. J. Townley claimed title to 80 acres near Hot Lake which Laudermilk allegedly occupied. Laudermilk was given time to obtain an attorney and a hearing was set for next Wednesday.
The 16 year old Thea Jefferson Hall of Jeffersonville was held for reformatories after killing bank cashier Fawcett and fatally wounding president Woodward Tucker during a bank robbery attempt at the New Albany National Bank. His father acknowledged the boy’s identity and said he was addicted to reading dime novels.
Inland City resident Mrs Thomas Wade fell ill on yesterday’s train and was rushed to Portland for treatment. Relative and nurse Belle Meyers traveled to Portland to remain at the bedside through the night.
