Baker City reports the Eagle Valley railway’s start of construction around July 1 after A B Jacobs, chief engineer for the building company, arrived from Cincinnati to file trust deeds and mortgages for bonds. Local progress may boost east Baker County with mining, fruit growing, agriculture and stock raising.

A sorrel two year old filly branded py RB on the left shoulder with a full white forehead stripe and one white hind foot was recovered after straying. A one year old filly branded same as the first was found leading to the recovery. Reported by Fred Braden of Ladd Canyon.
