General Superintendent M J Buckley announced that 1000 laborers will be moved to Wallowa County to push the Joseph extension. About 1060 workers, 500 by contractors and 600 by the company, will start within two weeks with full appropriations ready.

Salem May 26 J Thorburn Ross former Portland bank president was sentenced to five years in the state penitentiary and to pay a 9766 068 74 fine for converting state school funds while heading the Tithe Guarantee & Trust bank. A stay of judgment was granted on appeal and bail set at 6000 with total bail now 20000.
The Wabash Pittsburg Terminal company owes 400000 in interest next Monday. A committee to protect holders of the company’s 336,00050 fleet mortgage bonds is expected to be formed this afternoon amid the Goulds trans continental system troubles.
