Engineers Outline Feasibility of River Road Line

The report explains lowering men with ropes to permit instrument work on a river road. It notes a fifteen foot high water grade and fourteen feet per mile incline between Homestead and Pittsburg landing. Six tunnels 600 to 3000 feet long require blasting solid rock with estimated costs around 105000 dollars per mile and about 50000 dollars per mile overall. The Huntington to site length is about 200 miles, totaling roughly 10000000 dollars. It suggests Homestead work started only to support building the entire line and its surveying justified the plan.
