Public notice invites sealed bids for a pipe line intake project with a five percent certified check. Bids must be filed with Recorder D. B. Cox by 4 pm Wednesday May 18 1910. Plans and specifications available at City Recorder office.
District School Board of School District No 1 La Grande Union County Oregon invites bids for furnishing brick high school building with basement plus plumbing heating and ventilating according to Newton C Gauntt plans. Bids due May 28 1910 at noon. A 6 percent bid deposit and performance bond required.
Administratrix Helen Bloom filed to have the final account of the estate of M. Bloom heard by Union County Court in La Grande Oregon on May 21 1910 at 2 oclock in the afternoon. The notice requests any objections be filed by that date.
The note extols wiring a home at about $2.00 per room with cheap lamps and appliances. It urges readers to compare, visit the office, and have a representative explain why electricity should be used in the home.
Sugar at 6.75 per unit. Vegetables include onions parsnips spinach peas asparagus radishes and lettuce with various prices. Fruits list oranges lemons bananas strawberries with prices. Meats price ranges for hogs cows veal mutton chicks. Portland butter prices and butter fat. Eggs poultry barley wheat and flour prices noted.
Victor C Vaughan argues disease as the main obstacle to progress. He cites tuberculosis typhoid pneumonia cancer and child mortality with 80 percent preventable deaths. He urges an educated medical profession and national guidance by top doctors to free the U S from disease.
Rabbi Stephen Wise argues Americans favor international peace and a combined effort of the two great English speaking countries to limit armaments. He says the United States should lead due to no open questions with Europe and the unlikelihood of war with Japan, praising editors opposing war.
