Last night crowds filled the La Grande carnival as Parker shows delivered a banner attendance and high spirits. Broadway Belles announces a program change with The Alps set to open, touted as a Parker masterpiece featuring realistic staging and impressive electrical effects.
George Broadhurst's The Mills of the Gods arrives at Stew ard Opera House next Monday May 10 in Ernest Shuter's direction. The western tour features 20 plus roles with a detailed production and local manager collaboration, competing with The Man of the Hour at New York's Savoy.
The Tyrol carnival features Alpine scenery including Geneva views and the Alpine Glow attraction. Raiders of the pharaohs exhibit the statue turning to life while open air acts draw large audiences. Beno the King of the Air and the Two Lattips perform spectacular high dives, with Parker shows promising strong attendance throughout the remaining carnival days.
Considerable routine work was handled at last night's council session. Bills were read and referred, petitions for street grades and related issues were sent to committees, a Greek applicant sought a war beer license but likely none granted, near beer ordinance continued awaiting supreme court decision in the Union county case.
State President Mary A. Smith presided at a North Powder meeting yesterday where the local ladies hosted a splendid banquet for guests. Baker City assembly staff presented a tour display in an impressive exhibit as Mrs. Smith traveled through La Grande toward Grants Pass.
