Jealous Lover Slays Woman Wounds Escort Then Self

Henry P. Morrison a brakeman near Heppner Oregon fired on his sweetheart Nora Wright and her escort Barney Ahalt, killing Wright and wounding Ahalt before turning the pistol on himself. He survived, but doctors deemed recovery unlikely as investigators collected statements at Morgan Oregon. Morrison had long troubled by jealousy and depression over the romance.

Panhandle Express Car Robbery Nets $500000 Haul

Pittsburg May 4 report says robbers who held up the Adams Express car on the Panhandle road Thursday night secured $500,000, one of the largest hauls in U.S. history. Today men and boys found gold coins along the track, including several $6 pieces and other gold.

Automobile Day Race Card Planned for Saturday

A La Grande committee led by A V Y Andrews Ray W Logan and G M Titckey organized an automobile day with races on Adams Avenue near the post office. Small cars under 10 hp head the program followed by under 16 20 and 40 hp classes and a surprise novelty race with prizes for winners. The event includes a parade and a two by two time trial format when more than two entries exist.
