Wreck on Sumpter Valley Logs Trains Off Rails Into River
Early this morning a Baker logging train left the switch open at a rock quarry 13 miles south of town and derailed into the river. Engineer Brown suffered a serious back injury while the fireman escaped with minor scratches. An arresting switch-crime motive is suspected after a broken lock indicated deliberate tampering. The company offered a $500 reward for the culprit.
