Chicago May 2 The protracted teamsters strike continues with police mobilization planned after influx of 900 more officers. Violence erupts as 300 strike breakers march. injuries reported among white and black bystanders and guards.
A wagon collides with strike breakers provoking a riot. Stones bricks and bottles fly as the mob targets colored non-union men. A boy is struck, a man’s leg is broken, a woman is knocked unconscious, and Harry Reinberger is badly injured. Police arrive to disperse the crowd.
Caleb Powers moved from the county jail to Gearytown as the date for his fourth trial on the charge of complicity in the assassination of Governor Goebel is set. Local authorities and Scripps News Association report the development in Louisville Kentucky.
Light snowfall covered central and northern New York this day with cold air settling in. Residents reported scattered flurries and chilly conditions across several counties as warmer temperatures remained distant.
