James W McCoy Dead at Fifty Five in La Grande
James W McCoy died last night at 12 48 am at age 55 after a four week illness and four days bed rest. The funeral is set for Sunday at 2 pm from the Catholic church. Born in Fond du Lac Wisconsin on September 27 1862 he moved to La Grande in 1874 then married Mim Winnifred Spelley before returning to La Grande to raise a family of six children Vera Ray Leo Patrick and Margaret with wife Mia. Surviving relatives include four sisters in northern Michigan and Kate Morton of Seattle. He was La Grande’s first marshal after its incorporation and later served 24 years with the O R N railway. He had most recently worked in the freight office. Evening Observer.
