Juarez reels after a blast at federal barracks with 12 soldiers wounded as rebels strike again in Mexico. Two prisoners captured, others escape, while a general uprising is promised for next week and rail bridges face destruction in retaliation.
The naval commander in charge of the Bureau of Ordnance remains at sea as the torpedo boats and fuel stores are in harbor and submarines are in daily practice. Ottawa reports the Dowager Countess of Arrand and Lady Winfred Gore leaving Canada for home after a winter with the Harland and Countess Grey.
Armed strikers and mountaineers attacked a Queen Crescent engine near Somerset on March 16 fatally wounding Fireman Powers, a white strikebreaker. The engine guard is missing, and Powers claimed the guard refused to fire. The railway loss is estimated at 1,000,000 dollars, and 500 deputies are ordered to protect property as violence continues with many killed.
