No. 6 Wrecked Near Pendleton In Early Morning Crash

A No. 6 passenger engine derailed near Pilot Rock Junction four miles from Pendleton while running at a low speed. Fireman David Graybeal was seriously bruised and taken to St Anthonys Hospital. no baggage handlers were aboard the deadhead car. Engineer Hillman and Frank Pike were among other injured. the cause remains unconfirmed. The engine No. 199 had just been overhauled after a Cayuse crash and was described as a railways hoodoo by officials. Wrecker crews and trains arrived later in La Grande for salvage.

Army Captain Faces Court Martial For Cruelty To Soldiers

Captain Clarke D. Dudley of the Fourteenth United States Cavalry stands trial at Walla Walla on charges of cruelty to enlisted men. He allegedly jailed soldiers in a cramped cell for 48 hours without relief or food and forced them to wear placards while publicly displayed. Collinwood School Fire Kills Dozens in Ohio Tragedy

Cleveland on March 4 reports say a catastrophic blaze at the Collinwood school trapped about 300 pupils on the third floor. Authorities estimate 76 dead with many more injured as emergency crews recover bodies and treat victims.
