Kelley the athlete from Baker City passed through the jury en route from Spokane. He equalled the world record in the hundred yard dash and set a 21.15 flat for 220 yards at a Northwestern track meet. He also jumped 25 feet to inches in the broad jump.
W A Maxwell editor fisherman and Union city marshal toured the city with fish stories and claimed the Scout is booming since 1862. He said many new subscribers cannot read yet join, some rumored to subscribe repeatedly. He teases a jailhouse inducement for signing up as claimed.
Forest fires threaten Magdalen and Senora mines in El Faso Texas as employers flee for safety. The blaze drives out miners and damages mining companies with high losses. many Indian villages are already destroyed and the fire is uncontrolled.
Portland reports Estacada mayor J. W. Reed indicted by the Grand Jury on charges of complicity in election fraud voting under an assumed name.
Union County Oregon School District No 1 invites sealed bids to supply 150 cords of four foot split yellow pine and red fir wool wood and 30 to 110 tons of lump coal delivery to school buildings. Bids due 6 o'clock p m June 29 1956 with deliveries by Sept 5 1906. Bids separate and may be for partial amounts. Board may reject any bid. A G Williams School Clerk.
Burch and Sons of Blalock drove ten medium mules to Arlington and traded them for a 1603 dollar check. The sale valued each mule at about 160 dollars, or 320 pounds per animal, as reported by the Arlington Record.
The first sheep shipment of the season left Monday with J B Long & Co of Montana sending 28 car loads of Iowa county yearlings and 2 car loads of two-year-olds from the local yards. Of the total, 93 cars were bound for the Montana range and 5 cars to Kansas.
