Home Independent Telephone Opens Modern La Grande System

The Home Independent Telephone company today opened its new La Grande switchboard and central energy system after months of work. The upgrade connects La Grande and county lines with underground and aerial wiring, enabling one operator to ring 3909 phones and offering a single ring per subscriber. About 100 new subscribers will join in the initial rollout as local financing and staff accelerate service across Union and Wallowa counties.
