Spokane dispatch reports Bill Byrd the outlaw accused of killing G H Whipple contractor John Manski and Justice Meisner was captured without resistance after a days long pursuit. He surrendered after leaving Mica and heading toward a farmhouse for breakfast. Byrd had eluded a posse since Friday and was taken to Spokane with his guns left behind.

Harpist Galicio to Serenade Portland Tourists

After a three day Gearhart stay the Observer contest party arrives in Portland and will be welcomed at Mrs Phoebe Brock's home. Galicio the Italian harpist and soloist and Prof Schneneffer will serenade guests including Wallowa and Grande Ronde contingents. A reunion reception is planned tonight amid the city’s East Oregon friends.
