A violent standoff ends as the suspected killer, known as Tikken, yields peacefully after authorities arrest 18 accomplices without incident. Police report quick resolution and secure custody. No injuries are mentioned.
Spokane dispatch reports Bill Byrd the outlaw accused of killing G H Whipple contractor John Manski and Justice Meisner was captured without resistance after a days long pursuit. He surrendered after leaving Mica and heading toward a farmhouse for breakfast. Byrd had eluded a posse since Friday and was taken to Spokane with his guns left behind.
After a three day Gearhart stay the Observer contest party arrives in Portland and will be welcomed at Mrs Phoebe Brock's home. Galicio the Italian harpist and soloist and Prof Schneneffer will serenade guests including Wallowa and Grande Ronde contingents. A reunion reception is planned tonight amid the city’s East Oregon friends.
Commercial Club aims to boost the fruit industry as the Imbler Fruit Growers Association plans to assume duties of the local Commercial club in Imbler. La Grande club will meet with Imbler growers to discuss forming a joint development league for Union and Wallowa counties.

Fred Proebstel, early Grande Ronde Valley settler and twin brother of Will Proebstel, died in Portland after a two year illness. He came to Oregon in 1852 and helped establish claims in Union and La Grande, later moving to Wallowa and finally Portland. His passing ends a lineage of pioneer residents once numbering few in the valley.
