Trains Through La Grande Surge Amid Flood Rush
Freight and passenger traffic through La Grande remains heavy this week due to the Montana flood area and rising freight volumes. Passenger train No 6 arrived in two sections over two days carrying mail baggage strawberries from Hood River and Walla Walla valley. A pink Northern Pacific bananas train passed at night and two Belle Floto circus sections also moved through en route to Butte. Engine supply is strained with about 22 trains daily during the rush.
