An inquest at Huntington convicts Trape in the shooting death of a La Grande Lodge member. The murder occurred last evening. the victim was slain without warning and the case proceeds to Baker City for trial.
Local Eagle lodge members announce funeral plans for Jasperson a 44 Grinds lodge member killed by BR L Trapp during a Huntington saloon incident. A coroner's inquest returned a verdict that Trapp killed Jasperson. Trapp is jailed in Baker City awaiting grand jury indictment.
A local notice states the judge of Eagles is arranging for interment though no definite decision has been made yet. The item notes ongoing planning and pending formal action.
London July 18 The American athletes who took part in the Olympic games were guests of Sir Thomas Lipton today aboard the yacht Erin at Southampton Lipton presided at luncheon in their honor and praised the Americans while criticizing the British for lacking sportsmanship The Erin sailed around the Isle of Wight as the visitors departed amid cheers and a toast to the Irish yacht clubmembers
A special meeting of the city council is called by Mayor M J Hall to review the charter revival plan, enable water bonds, and set a date for a forthcoming election. The session will include two departments and determine the charter wording. Weather notes forecast fall tonight, warmer Wednesday. An advertisement for Holbi Shoulder brace is included.

Washington July 98 The Interstate Commerce Commission says it may begin an intramural inquiry to determine if the freight rate advance is justified. The commission cannot suspend the proposed rise. only after investigation and hearing can it order reductions. If tariffs show increases after filing the commission will promptly start investigations without waiting for formal complaints.
In a landmark shift in Turkey, Sultan Abdul Hamid II announces a constitutional monarchy marking the end of autocratic rule. The imperial family adopts a new life after years as self-imposed prisoners, with the Sultan claiming to rule by the will of the people and to appear as a private citizen.
