The May 1905 Monthly Summary of Commerce and Finance records US wheat exports from the Pacific states totaling 4 027 736 bushels in eleven months ending May 1905 with Portland 158 678 more than San Francisco and 236 038 more than Puget Sound. Wheat flour exports reach 8 181 615 barrels valued at 7 187 865 dollars, with Portland 759 358 barrels, San Francisco 636 287, and Puget Sound 1 485 149 barrels. New York port shipped 81 463 bushels of wheat.
The eleven months under review were valued at 77 082 or .944 per bushel, reflecting a reported price per bushel figure.
The piece notes the importance of merchant ships to U S foreign trade and asks who owns the vessels that carried 1905 exports valued at 1 397 360 140 and imports worth 1 027 868 509 in eleven months amid a total freighting of 2 424 718 649.
